Arriving now is the brand-new Opel Grandland for 2024, which represents a radical upgrade over the previous model. The Grandland, which will be offered later this year in the UK as a Vauxhall and as an Opel in continental Europe, boasts a host of opulent amenities that transform it into a completely new kind of vehicle.

Both combustion-powered and all-electric versions of the Grandland will be available, as we reported back in November of 2023. A deeper look at Stellantis’ most recent European small crossover, which sits above the more reasonably priced Frontera that was just unveiled.

With respect to the previous model, the new Grandland is substantially bigger. It acquires 0.7 inches (19 mm) of height, 2.5 inches (64 mm) of width, and 6.8 inches (173 mm) of overall length. The Grandland’s dimensions have increased to 183.1 inches (4,650 mm) in length, 75 inches (1,905 mm) in width, and 65.4 inches (1,660 mm) in height.

Additionally, it has a lengthy wheelbase of 2,784 mm, or 109.6 inches. Consequently, there is a 36-liter gain in boot space and an extra 0.8 inches (20 mm) of legroom for rear-seat passengers over the previous version.

ICE And EV Choices

The Grandland is a versatile vehicle, built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which it shares with the Peugeot 3008. This platform can accept different powerplant and drivetrain configurations, just like its bigger sibling.

The Grandland offers a 73 kWh or a 98 kWh battery pack for the electric models. These EVs can DC fast charge to 160 kW using a 400V design, giving them an amazing range of up to 700 km (435 miles). Expect a standard FWD version at launch and a dual-motor variant later on, however this is not guaranteed at this time.

The fact that a combustion version with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system is on the way may be the most intriguing. A plug-in hybrid version with a roughly 50-mile pure-electric range will be released later. By 2028, Opel claims to be an all-EV brand, but given the recent slowdown in the industry, it may be reconsidering that approach. For the time being, the hybrid option might really succeed.

Sales of this most recent Grandland won’t be negatively impacted either by its features. They feature a two-tone floating roof, crisp wheel-arch feature lines, Intelli-Lux Pixel Matrix HD lighting, and a new LED emblem at the front of the vehicle in the “Vizor” design.

Upgrades abound in the cabin as well, with a heads-up display, a large 16-inch touchscreen screen, and some incredibly comfortable seats. These chairs include a massaging feature, ventilation, and powered side bolsters. Additionally, there is a slot on the front seats made especially to release pressure from the tailbone.

“The new Grandland is a milestone for Opel. With it, every Opel without exception is now available electrically,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl. “This is a big step in our electric offensive. The new Grandland was designed and developed in Rüsselsheim and will be built in Eisenach. The relationship to the Opel Experimental is unmistakable. It offers innovations that were first seen on this extraordinary concept car. The new Grandland will therefore strengthen our position in the important C-SUV segment”.

Although Opel has not yet announced a launch date, the Grandland should be on sale in the fall. Before then, more information regarding the fuel efficiency and range of internal combustion engines (ICEs) is probably going to be released.
