Spain defeated Italy, the defending champions, 1-0 in Group B on Thursday night in Germany to make it two wins out of two at Euro 2024.

La Roja dominated the first half and had a golden opportunity to grab the lead after two minutes thanks to a well-taken shot by Pedri.

Constantly dangerous down the left, Nico Williams crossed the ball into the area to find Pedri, but Gianluigi Donnarumma turned his header over the bar.

Despite dominating the first half, Spain was unable to find the back of the Italy goal, as Donnarumma made crucial saves from Alvaro Morata and Fabian Ruiz.

All Spain needed was the last touch, and Williams and Lamine Yamal were having a great time on the wings.

Following the break, Spain resumed where they had left off. Before Pedri’s attempt sailed wide, La Roja eventually took the lead thanks to an own goal.

Once more, Nico Williams created a threat from the left with a cross. Morata flicked it on, and the goalkeeper barely had time to stop it before it struck Riccardo Calafiori and shot into the net.

Then, Lamine Yamal came dangerously near to the goal with a lovely long-range shot that sailed just past Donnarumma’s post, and Williams came even closer with an incredible strike that beat the goalie but struck the woodwork.

After 70 minutes, Luis de la Fuente rested Pedri and Yamal, substituting them with Ferran Torres and Alex Baena, respectively, to prepare his team for the last stages of play.

With one game remaining, Spain secured their spot in the knockout rounds with a 1-0 victory against the opposition. Ayoze Perez had the opportunity to score again late in the game, but they were forced to settle for a draw.
