Head coach Daniel Vettori of Sunrisers Hyderabad believes that as the Indian Premier League’s final run comes near, his team should practice chasing after having mastered the art of setting totals. SRH has won five of their last eight games, placing them third in the standings. Four of the five wins have come from starting at bat. “After losing by 35 runs to Royal Challengers Bengaluru here on Thursday night, we have to look at how well we are chasing.” Vettori stated. “We have been successful setting totals.”
After choosing to bat, RCB recorded an impressive 206 for 7, and they later held SRH to 171 for 8.
The target seemed equally achievable for a team that has scored more than 250 runs three times this season, but a rare failure of the top and middle order cost the hosts dearly.
“Obviously, disappointing one where we have come from in the last four games; we played some really good cricket and even though we lost, you could see if we had some wickets at the back end, we could have still chased it down,” Vettori told the press following the match.
“Everything collapsed after those early wickets. We had faith in the results we were able to achieve. We certainly let a few runs in the field, but we still felt that 206 was a good score. But because of their prior performances, the group had confidence.
“We also knew it was being set up by the openers and how good they have played, and today they had an off day and that’s cricket,” he stated.
The former cricket player from New Zealand claimed that no game in the IPL is simple.
“We regretfully didn’t receive the necessary backing throughout the intermediate phases. Even though it was a difficult defeat, we know that every club in the IPL is capable of defeating any squad. There are never any simple games, according to Vettori.
The coach believed that in games with heavy scoring, the position of an anchor is meaningless.
“The wicket was still rather decent, in my opinion. According to the men who came off, it’s a surface where points can be earned. Anchor role: It is difficult to catch up to 207, therefore you must obviously be proactive. It can be a little difficult for some people to sit there and play the anchor.” Swapnil Singh, an all-rounder for the Royal Challenge of Bengaluru, was relieved when his team ended a six-match losing run.
“The game was won, which was more important than the experience. The team’s tempo changes after a victory. It is pleasant to feel. We missed the last two games by a narrow margin, but there is still a long way to go,” he remarked.
Despite SRH’s brag of having a very aggressive batting order, Swapnil stated that they felt the target was enough on this field.
“The ball was coming to a halt. As a fast bowler, our primary goal was to spin the ball and bowl more slowly. It was helpful as we were prepared for their obvious assault, which they carried out.
“Yes, we felt so because the wicket was stopping when we were batting as well and dew was not there,” he stated.
