Pixar’s Black Cat Film Revealed Title, Plot, and Director

Pixar COO Pete Docter unveiled the initial details of an upcoming original Pixar black cat film during annecy.

What is the Latest Pixar Black Cat Movie?

In the upcoming film Gatto, Pixar, the same company that made Luca, makes a comeback to Venice. It is directed by Enrico Casarosa and centers on Nero, a black cat in a world where black cats are considered unlucky. Despite his inability to swim, Nero is navigating the canal-lined city of Venice. Nero becomes embroiled in the shadier facets of cat culture and becomes reliant on Rocco, a cat in the vein of a Mafia leader. Nero, a stray cat, is adopted by Maya, a street performer, and the two become close because they are both “black cats” in this community. Their bond turns into the movie’s central theme.

Pixar will launch a slightly fresh animation approach in this movie. In order to convey the feel of Venice in a novel way, the filmmakers merged Pixar’s 3D approach with an animation method that resembles a painting with brushstrokes.

Gatto is scheduled to pen in theaters in the summer of 2027.

Original movies and sequels make up Pixar’s current and upcoming slate. Next up is Pixar’s latest film, Elio, which opens in theaters on June 20, 2025. Hoppers, another of its original films, tells the story of a little girl who uses science to enter a beaver’s body and prevent a mayor from constructing a highway that would destroy the ecosystem of a beaver population. On March 6, 2026, Hoppers will be released in theaters.

Toy Story 5 will be released on June 19, 2026, after that. Following the release of Gatto, Pixar will release the two additional sequels that are presently in development, Incredibles 3 and Coco 2. Peter Sohn, who directed Elemental and The Good Dinosaur, was announced as the director of the upcoming Incredibles film.
