What have you learned from running a successful business?

When I was 19, I worked at a beauty shop. All I had to do was show up on time, do what I was told, and clock out at the end of the day. So many people treat owning a business like they would a regular job, but it’s not. When you own a business, you don’t get to clock in and out. You’re the boss. If you don’t make sure everything gets done, then it won’t get done. You only get results if you put the work in. 

What has surprised you most about running your own business?

How HARD it is! Running a business means waking up each day and solving problems you didn’t even know you had. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I started, but I’ve faced more challenges than I ever could have imagined. It’s all worth it at the end of the day, though.

Do you have any advice for others looking to do what you’ve done?

Get started! If I hadn’t started my business, I would never have gotten the opportunities that have changed everything. And, I’d never been able to learn to do what I do each day! It’s scary at the beginning, but you won’t regret it.
