Apple’s new artificial intelligence (AI) tools, known as Apple Intelligence, are now scheduled for release later than initially anticipated. Originally set to debut with the launch of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, these AI features will now be introduced a few weeks after the September rollout of these operating systems, with some functionalities expected to arrive towards the end of 2024 and early 2025.
According to a report by Bloomberg News, Apple plans to release these AI tools as part of a series of software updates in October. This decision to delay the AI tools’ release separately from the initial iOS 18 launch is reportedly due to concerns regarding the stability of the Apple Intelligence features.
Developers are expected to get early access to Apple Intelligence starting this week, which will allow them to test the AI software on beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1. The suite of AI tools includes features for generating text, images, and other content on command, and it is designed to be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and newer iPad and Mac devices equipped with the M1 chip or later versions.
In addition to content generation, Apple Intelligence will offer enhanced notification features, an updated version of Siri, and AI tools that can summarize content from web pages and voice notes. It also includes an iPhone Mirroring feature on macOS Sequoia, which allows users to view and interact with their iPhone’s screen on Mac computers.
Apple first unveiled its plans for Apple Intelligence during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The company emphasized the new capabilities that this AI suite would bring to its devices, highlighting its potential to improve user experience and boost sales amid a period of slower demand for new devices. Apple has not yet officially commented on the reported delay of Apple Intelligence’s release.
This postponement also comes in the wake of Apple’s recent decision to delay the launch of three other AI features. This delay was influenced by new European Union regulations requiring tech companies to ensure compatibility with third-party products and services on their devices. These regulations are part of a broader effort to ensure fair competition and consumer choice in the tech market.
