The creator of Emaar and Noon, Mohammed Alabbar, has revealed plans to build the Dubai Creek Tower, dubbed the “female” Burj Khalifa.
This futuristic mall in Dubai will allow customers to drive electric cars through it.
At the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF) 2024, he revealed in a speech that the mall would be located in Dubai Creek Harbour. He declared, “We are attempting something exciting.”
“This will be the first time cars can enter a mall so it will be very unique. We did not come up with this ourselves, we learnt it from somewhere.”
Alabbar was open about his insights and failures during a session titled “Towering Success: What It Takes to Build a Business Empire.”
He gave an explanation for the company’s decision to abandon its intentions to erect a tower at the site that would have been a kilometer long. He said, “We realized we made a mistake.” “We construct these skyscrapers in order to profit from the units that have a view of the tower. The tower doesn’t generate any revenue for us. Similar to how every Parisian wants an apartment with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Why do we need to construct a skyscraper that is one kilometer tall when our buildings are just fifty stories high?
He continued by saying that the Creek skyscraper is considered by the company to be the “female” Burj Khalifa and that the tower’s first look will be shown in the upcoming months. The Dubai Creek Harbour project, with its six million square meter area, is intended to be the “new downtown”.
The 66-year-old also discussed how Emaar’s public listing had affected his life and how it had evolved. “It is a big challenge to have to tell people what you have done every 90 days if your company is listed,” he said.
“You can’t hide. These days, if I go visit a city and news gets out about it, a letter from the stock market comes asking me what I am doing there, what investment I will do and what the feasibility is like.”
But he claimed that because the task forced him to be disciplined, he appreciated it. “Because you are working with public funds, there are a lot of procedures and safety measures,” he stated.
