The flagship Enclave SUV from Buick, created by General Motors, is the most recent example of the automaker’s continuous reinvention of the roughly 125-year-old brand.
The 2025 Enclave’s improvements, which include new technology, exterior, and interior redesigns, round off Buick’s current four-vehicle lineup makeover. Buick launched its new design philosophy in 2022 with the introduction of the Wildcat, an aggressive concept car.
Even while the Enclave is Buick’s most recent model to get the Wildcat treatment, it could not be the last. As soon as this year, GM is anticipated to add a new all-electric Buick to its portfolio. In the meantime, the company is carrying out multiple “design studies” to ascertain the future direction of the once-dominant American brand.
“really excited about what the brand is becoming again,” GM President Mark Reuss said during a media event at the company’s design and technology campus in suburban Detroit. ”[It’s a] really talented team, really talented execution, globally.”
As a former transmission calibrator for Buick, Reuss claimed the design team under Bob Boniface’s direction had done a fantastic job of “bringing life back into Buick design.”
Compared to the present model, the 2025 Enclave is taller, wider, and longer. Additionally, it has an aggressive external appearance with Buick’s new “reverse check mark” headlamps and a bigger front grill.
″[It’s] the flagship of the Buick brand,” said Boniface during a media event. “We talked a lot about the visual DNA and here you see it, how it translates into our largest vehicle in the range … it’s masterful use of the surface language.”
The SUV’s back has many more truck-like angles and broad tail lamps that span the entire width of the vehicle.
The “floating” center console, which is part of the newly redesigned cabin, is detached from the vehicle’s front instrument panel. A conventional 30-inch diagonally curved infotainment screen is also included.
GM’s hands-free highway driving technology, Super Cruise, will be available on the three Enclave trim levels: Preferred, ST, and Avenir. Wireless charging, heated front seats, and additional convenience and safety features are also included as standard.
Due to fuel economy, GM is replacing the current V6 version of the Enclave with a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 328 horsepower and 326 foot-pounds of torque.
The price of the 2025 Enclave, according to the carmaker, will be revealed closer to the time it starts production at a plant in mid-Michigan. As of right now, starting costs range from about $43,300 to over $60,000.
Buick Conversion
The crossover/SUV models Encore GX, Envista, Envision, and Enclave are currently available from Buick. Prior to 2024, it had declared that all of its new electric vehicles would go by the moniker Electra, which the company has been using since 1959.
The next EV may launch in 2025, according to company executives and spokespeople, who failed to confirm the date once again. The car is still listed as expected to be available in 2024 on the brand’s website.
Buick’s global vice president, Duncan Aldred, described the company’s development as a “pretty miraculous transformation.” Regarding any upcoming nameplate additions to Buick’s lineup in the United States, he declined to comment.
“As you see, there’s a lot of energy, enthusiasm, passion; people keep doing things, and it informs the future,” said Aldred, who also heads GM’s GMC brand. “You’re going to have to watch this space to see what comes next.”
In light of the slower-than-anticipated uptake of electric vehicles and modifications to federal fuel pollution regulations, General Motors is reviewing its product lineups overall in an effort to better integrate hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with EVs.
Buick declared in 2022 that by 2030, it would only sell all-electric cars. (GM as a whole earlier declared a goal to provide customers with only electric vehicles by 2035.) Aldred reiterated remarks made earlier by GM CEO Mary Barra, stating that the brand’s EV strategy will depend on consumer demand.
After posting a 61.4% gain in overall sales last year, Buick’s U.S. sales climbed by 16.4% during the first quarter of 2022, following relatively modest results in 2022.
Even while sales increased to 167,030 units last year, they were still about 40,000 units less than in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic caused production and supply chain issues that lasted for years.
Buick’s new entry-level Envista crossover, which sold close to 10,000 units in the first quarter of this year and was the brand’s third best-selling car overall, contributed significantly to the company’s success.
Along with expanding its model selection, Buick has also raised the average transaction pricing of its top-tier “Avenir” models across the board. Approximately 25% of Buick’s sales in the first quarter of this year were Avenir models.
Aldred stated that he thinks Buick can increase sales in the United States with its current array of cars, particularly when Envista production picks up and the 2025 Enclave hits dealerships this summer.
