Indian opener Smriti Mandhana moved up one spot to second in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings after playing a crucial part in India’s victory in the most recent Tri-Nation competition in Sri Lanka, bringing her one step closer to reclaiming the top spot.

Mandhana overcame Nat Sciver-Brunt and currently trails only 11 rating points behind Laura Wolvaardt, the top batter with 738 points.

During the tri-series against South Africa and Sri Lanka, the left-handed hitter, who was the top-ranked batter in 2019, was in outstanding form. She got a century in the final and 264 runs in five innings.

Top-ranked South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, who scored just 86 runs in the Tri-Series, is just 11 rating points ahead of the 28-year-old.

After scoring 139 runs in the series, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu moved up two spots to seventh place in the top 10, while South Africa’s Chloe Tryon (up nine ranks to 18th) and Jemimah Rodrigues (up five spots to 15th) also saw improvements.

After putting up strong performances in Sri Lanka, India’s Deepti Sharma moved up one spot to fifth overall among bowlers.

Additionally, de Klerk (up four spots to 12th) and Tryon (up three places to 11th) saw improvements.

Ash Gardner of Australia remains the top-ranked all-round player in ODI cricket, while Sophie Ecclestone of England continues to top the bowling ratings.
