According to BMW India, the country’s premiere of the fifth generation model is scheduled for July 24, 2024. For the first time, the next generation BMW 5 Series will be available in India with an extended wheelbase (LWB), intensifying competition with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB in the same class. The 5 Series LWB has only been offered by BMW in China thus far; the right-hand drive variant of the sedan will initially be available in India.

Anticipated Shifts for the New BMW 5 Series

In order to increase interior legroom, the next generation BMW 5 Series LWB has a lengthened wheelbase and is longer overall. The dimensions of the China-spec variant are 1,520 mm in height, 1,900 mm in width, and 5,175 mm in length. The wheelbase is 110 mm longer than the normal wheelbase model, measuring 3,105 mm. The length has increased by 145 mm total. The India-spec variant is anticipated to have the same specifications as well as a higher ground clearance.

The expanded wheelbase is the only feature that sets the ordinary BMW 5 Series variant apart from the LWB. While the bumpers get minor adjustments, the grille, headlights, and taillights remain unchanged. As seen on the E-Class LWB, the rear door should be larger but is equipped without a rear door quarter glass. An illuminated ‘5’ badge on the C-pillar identifies the China-spec vehicle as a LWB model. If this is the case with the Indian version, then will be intriguing to watch.

Upgrades to the New BMW 5 Series’ cabin

The new 5 Series LWB will retain the same cabin. Anticipate features including leather upholstery, dual-tone styling, a panoramic sunroof, and four zones of climate control, among others. It will have the 7 Series’ Curved display, which combines a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument console into a single, long display panel. Additionally, there will be a touch-sensitive interaction bar that lets you change the ambient illumination.

In addition to having additional legroom, the back seats should be able to recline for increased comfort. On the new 5 Series LWB, the boot capacity will also be increased over the conventional version. The 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines equipped with mild hybrid technology are probably among the engine options. Notably, the all-electric i5 has also been introduced by BMW in India.

With the 3 Series Gran Limousine, BMW has already experimented with long wheelbase vehicles, and the product is highly well-liked in its market.
