Legend of the West Indies Vivian Richards presented the ‘Fielder of the Match’ trophy to top-ranked Twenty20 International batsman Suryakumar Yadav after India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in their ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights match on Saturday. With an all-around performance from Hardik Pandya and an enormous spell from Kuldeep Yadav, India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in their ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights match on Saturday in Antigua, moving one step closer to quarterfinal qualification.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of their medal ceremony on their X handle. The ceremony happens in the changing room following each game.
Coach of fielding T Dilip praised the team’s fielding effort, noting that they showed what it meant to be truly relentless by not allowing the opposition to score any runs easily.
“We clearly had a strong desire to win there. We are intended to be that in the world. Excellent work. The fielding coach said, “It is evident that when our efforts are directed toward a common goal, we not only meet the standards that we set in, but we also constantly redefine ourselves.”
Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel, and Suryakumar Yadav were mentioned by Dilip as medal contenders. Presenting the medal to the “safe house” Suryakumar was the famous West Indies cricket player, whose name Dilip first identified as being associated with “fearlessness and unmatched on-field charisma”. Litton Das was removed by Suryakumar with a superb diving catch at deep square leg, giving Hardik Pandya and India the first wicket of the match.
Giving the medal to Suryakumar, Viv conveyed his happiness with Men in Blue’s performance and made it plain that he would support Men in Blue to break their 11-year ICC trophy drought if his West Indies squad was unable to win the championship.
“Dude, what can I say to a team that is already so strong? You know, this is really working out for you. The West Indies legend continued, “And I can only say this: if the guys in Maroon (West Indies) do not get it done, I will be backing you.”
Suryakumar declared, “I feel really well,” following his receipt of the medal. Alright. Mohamed Siraj, I believe… I am quite grateful to get this medal from the great legend Sir Vivian Richards in Antigua since he set a very high standard on the field from the very first game. It feels fantastic that we have been working so hard on fielding with Dilip Sir. I really hope that this medal journey continues since it inspires and motivates me much.”
