Six days after an uneven landing that complicated operations, NASA and the firm that built the spacecraft, Odysseus—the first American spacecraft to land on the moon in fifty years—approached a mission-ending nap on Wednesday. Despite this setback, the corporation and NASA hailed the spacecraft’s performance as a success.
NASA reported that it was able to retrieve some data from each of the six science packages that Odysseus, which is operated by Texas-based Intuitive Machines (LUNR.O), provided, despite ongoing challenges with maintaining communication with the lander and maintaining the solar batteries’ charge.
