The Indian cricket team, recently crowned T20 world champions, has received an invitation from the Maldives to celebrate their victory. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) extended the invitation. This gesture comes in the wake of India’s thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final held in Barbados on June 29, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, and Ahmed Nazeer, Secretary General of MATI, jointly conveyed their enthusiasm to welcome the victorious team in their statement. “We would be honoured to host you and ensure that your stay is filled with memorable moments, relaxation, and bespoke experiences,” they stated.

The invitation underscores the strong cultural and sporting connections between India and the Maldives. Shiuree emphasized the honor it would be for the Maldives to welcome the Indian cricket team and share in the celebration of their victory. Last Thursday, the Indian team returned home to a warm welcome from excited fans in both Delhi and Mumbai.Both cities hosted victory parades that saw lakhs of supporters turning out to celebrate the team’s achievement.

Currently, the team is enjoying a break before their next international series. They are set to face Sri Lanka in a six-match limited-overs series starting on July 27, which includes three ODIs and three T20 Internationals.
