SUV debuts in 2024 included the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Sonet facelifts. India received a new SUV by the first quarter in the form of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. But for SUV fans, 2024 looks even more promising because a number of additional new models are anticipated to arrive in Indian marketplaces during the second half of this year. Leading automakers in the SUV market, including Mahindra, Tata Motors, and Kia, are getting ready to introduce new flagship models, some of which will likely be electric cars.

Mahindra Thar Five-Door

Sometime in August, Mahindra & Mahindra was spotted testing the five-door variant of their well-liked lifestyle SUV. After Maruti Suzuki tested the Jimny SUV last year, the automaker will introduce the five-door Thar. With the release of the new model, Thar, the best-selling vehicle in the lifestyle SUV market, hopes to stabilize its sales. There will be two engine options available for the SUV. A 2.2-liter diesel engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine will be available.

The new five-door Thar will have a revised look and a renovated interior with more features, according to multiple spy photos. The SUV will have bench seats in the second row rather than captain seats, according to recent spy photos. In addition to a larger infotainment screen, the five-door version of the SUV is anticipated to have a greater trunk capacity.

The Tata Curvv

It has been announced by Tata Motors that the new SUV Curvv will go on sale in the second half of this year. The automaker will provide an electric, diesel, and gasoline version of the Curvv SUV. It is anticipated that the ICE version of the Curvv will debut first, with the EV following.

Under its hood, the 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine will power the Curvv SUV’s internal combustion engine. The engine has a maximum power output of 125 horsepower. The 1.5-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine that powers the Nexon SUV will also be installed in it. Based on the same Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture as the Punch EV, the Curvv EV is anticipated to have a 500 km range.

Basalt Citroen

The C3 and C3 Aircross are the first two models in the French automaker’s C-Cubed program; the Basalt will be the third. The Basalt SUV will go on sale before the approaching holiday season, the automaker has revealed.

The Basalt SUV is probably going to have a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 108 horsepower and a peak torque of 205 Nm. An automatic 6-speed torque converter transmission may be attached to the engine.

Kia Clavis

After Sonet and Seltos, the Korean auto giant is preparing to launch a third SUV in its range. The vehicle, which has been repeatedly observed testing on Indian roads, is anticipated to be driven by the automaker. The Clavis SUV is anticipated to have a length of more than four meters.

It is anticipated that Kia will outfit the Clavis SUV with a 1.5-liter diesel and a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. With 118 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque, the turbocharged gasoline engine is expected to be paired with a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 6-speed torque converter or a 6-speed manual transmission might be mated to the diesel engine. Additionally, Kia might introduce a third naturally aspirated gasoline engine, perhaps drawn from the Sonet or Selto SUVs.

Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen, a major German automaker, has previously stated that by the end of this year, it will introduce the ID.4—its first electric vehicle—in India. Currently available for purchase in international countries such as Europe, the ID.4 EV will be delivered to India as a completely built unit (CBU). Volkswagen debuted the ID.4 in India for the first time in April of last year.

There are two varieties of the ID.4 that are headed for India: the GTX version and one other. It has a 500 km maximum range provided by an 82 kWh battery pack and an all-wheel drive system. The motor has a maximum torque of 499 Nm and a power output of 299 horsepower. The ID.4 EV has an electronically regulated top speed of 180 kmph, although it can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in just over six seconds.
