Happy Great Union Day, Romania!

The present Doodle honors Romania’s Great Union Day, or Ziua Marii Uniri, in celebration of the unification of Transylvania, Banat, Crișana, and Maramureș with the Romanian Kingdom on this date in 1918.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the determination of this date for the nation’s national occasion, which occured in 1990.

Portrayed in the Doodle artwork is the blue, yellow, and red tricolor flag of Romania. The flag’s tones follow back to the Ottoman realms of Moldavia and Walachia that joined to frame Romania in 1858.

The two principalities flew flags got from old banners-Moldavia’s flag was blue and included a ox head, while Walachia’s was yellow with a falcon. Walachia likewise utilized a naval ensign that highlighted each of the three of the shadings flown all through the nation today.

The first version of the modern Romanian banner showed up in 1848, and following different iterations the country authoritatively embraced the current design in 1989.
