Microsoft is preparing to construct a massive new data center on a 315-acre parcel of land in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, according to plans.

Officials from both the city and the county made the news on Monday that the tech giant had agreed to buy land in the east section of Area III of Tax Increment District No. 5 (TID 5) – Foxconn is one of them.

“Microsoft was attracted to this location because it is primed for development,” Village of Mount Pleasant President David DeGroot said in a statement.

“Through local investments, we have transformed this area of Mount Pleasant and equipped it with the infrastructure necessary to support a major investment in Microsoft.”

On Thursday, the final proposal will be considered by the Mount Pleasant Village Board. At its April 11 and April 18 meetings, the Racine County Board will take the proposal into consideration.

According to reports, Microsoft will partially reimburse Foxconn for the funds it advanced in 2017 to acquire lands in TID 5 with the proceeds from any land sale. The organization had the main right of refusal to the land and needs to approve getting Microsoft to the area.

Under the development agreement, Microsoft will construct a $1 billion, 315-acre data center campus. Construction on the site could begin as soon as later this year if the project receives approval.

“Our data center campus investment plans with the Village of Mount Pleasant County are part of Microsoft’s long-term commitment to the local communities in Wisconsin. We look forward to our work there,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.
