In terms of the duration of time spent on mobile in 2022 and 2023, India topped the global rankings. According to InMobi-owned smart lock screen platform Glance, it ranked second in terms of website traffic and had an increase in content consumption of over 80% on Thursday.
According to Glance, the site has over 235 million active users who perform over 30 billion taps and 2 trillion glances annually. It runs across more than 20 content categories directly on Android lock screens.
Glance estimates that there are over 931 million smartphone users in India who use an average of 20GB of data each month.
With more than 3.5 million apps in total, 40% of new users delete apps within the first 30 days, and 75% of new users are lost by an average app on the first day.
3.5 million daily active users (DAUs) used Glance’s live score widget during the IPL and Cricket World Cup. In a similar, it produced 6 billion looks during Bigg Boss Season 17.
Users viewed almost 550 million glances at content offered in regional languages every day. Remarkably, seven of the top 25 content items from the previous year were regionally focused and covered news, movies, and local issues.
Nearly twice as many users accessed content in regional languages as in English.
With respect to user consumption, the top three content categories were sports, entertainment, and national news, with corresponding shares of 19%, 18%, and 16%.
There were 4 billion glances at the G20 and 2 billion at Chandrayaan, respectively.
According to the research, tier-1 cities comprised 55% of users who browsed information on their smartphone lock screens, with tier-II and tier-III cities rapidly catching up with 45% of users.
Statistically speaking, “glancing” is skewed significantly toward the age group of 24 and under, with a share of 47%. According to the report, males are more likely than females to find and consume material on their lock screen, with a ratio of 61:39.
The Smart Lock Screen Trends Report India 2024 was put together by Glance between January 2023 and December 2023.
