Apple TV+ has officially renewed the Hollywood satire series The Studio for a second season. The show, which debuted on March 25, will wrap up its first season with the release of its eighth episode on May 7. The series has gained a lot of attention already, with a cast that includes well-known actors like Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, and Chase Sui Wonders, as well as cameos from Bryan Cranston, Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie, Steve Buscemi, and Olivia Wilde.
Creators and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg expressed their excitement over the renewal, joking that they plan to use the experience of producing the first season to inform the next—and hopefully many more to come. They also teased that the series will continue to keep their industry peers guessing which personal stories might appear on-screen.
The show was born out of Rogen and Goldberg’s first-look television deal with Lionsgate Television through their Point Grey Pictures label. In addition to the duo, the series was co-created by Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez, all of whom also serve as executive producers alongside Point Grey’s James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Josh Fagen. Lionsgate Television produces the series.
Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the show’s success, crediting the creative team and ensemble cast for delivering a standout first season. He added that he’s eager to see what direction the story takes in the second season and humorously wished for the fictional “Kool-Aid” movie to be a box office success.
Matt Remick, the new head of Continental Studios, is portrayed by Rogen. The show follows Matt and his inner circle of anxious executives as they try to revive the magic of movie-making while managing self-absorbed artists and profit-obsessed corporate leaders. It’s a chaotic ride through the entertainment world, where every decision could lead to triumph or disaster—and for Matt, the dream job might end up being his undoing.
