Amazon Prime Video has introduced X-Ray Recaps, an innovative feature aimed at helping viewers catch up on shows without needing to rewind or search for summaries online. Officially launched on November 5, this AI-powered tool offers personalized summaries tailored to your viewing journey. Designed to be concise and easy to read, X-Ray Recaps cover entire seasons, single episodes, or specific moments, enabling viewers to jump back into the storyline effortlessly.
The feature offers quick, digestible snippets that summarize cliffhangers and major character developments, allowing fans to reconnect with their shows seamlessly, whether they’re only a few minutes into an episode or returning after a break. According to Adam Gray, Vice President of Product at Prime Video, this addition addresses a common viewer challenge: remembering the last watched plot points. “Prime Video’s tech and product teams strive to enhance user experiences, and X-Ray Recaps directly resolves the issue of losing track mid-series. With this contextual functionality, we can provide quick summaries of key events, so viewers can jump back into the story or rediscover the reasons they loved a show in the first place,” Gray noted.
The feature runs on Amazon Bedrock, an AI service powered by AWS for building custom AI applications, and it uses a mix of foundational and specially trained models on Amazon SageMaker. This combination lets the technology analyze scenes, subtitles, and dialogue to generate spoiler-free, concise recaps. X-Ray Recaps can be accessed on the Prime Video detail page or during playback within the X-Ray experience. Users have the option to choose from various types of recaps, such as for the current episode, the season so far, or even the previous season.
Currently in beta, X-Ray Recaps is available on Fire TV for US-based users, with planned support for other devices by year’s end. At launch, this feature covers all Amazon MGM Studios Original series, including popular titles like Daisy Jones and the Six, Mr & Mrs Smith, The Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
