Users will soon be able to manage how their address book is synced across various accounts, a functionality that is particularly advantageous for those who maintain separate accounts for personal and professional use.

The upcoming update will allow users to customize the synchronization process for each individual contact. This means that users will not be required to sync their entire address book automatically. Instead, they will have the option to select which contacts to sync manually. This feature is designed to provide greater flexibility, enabling users to sync only specific contacts as needed. Additionally, users will have the capability to unsync contacts that have previously been synced if they prefer to restrict their accessibility on connected devices. This granular level of control is expected to significantly improve the management of contacts for users juggling multiple accounts.

In parallel, WhatsApp is also working on integrating passkey technology to further enhance the platform’s privacy and security features. According to another report from WABetainfo, this update aims to bolster the security of chat backups by replacing traditional password-based systems with biometric authentication methods, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.

At present, WhatsApp users can secure their backups using a custom password or a complex 64-digit encryption key. While these methods provide robust protection, they also present challenges in terms of management and can increase the risk of users being locked out of their backups if they forget their credentials. The integration of passkey technology is expected to simplify the backup process by allowing users to use the same biometric authentication methods they use to unlock their devices. This shift is anticipated to make backup management more user-friendly and enhance overall security by removing the need for lengthy passwords and complex encryption keys, thereby streamlining the user experience and reinforcing the security of chat backups.
