At the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, held nearly two weeks ago, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the highly anticipated e Vitara for the Indian market, confirming its launch in March. This all-electric midsize SUV is underpinned by the e-Heartect platform and will be available in three trims-Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Customers will also have the option to choose from a diverse palette of ten colour schemes, including six single-tone and four dual-tone options.
The e Vitara will be offered with two battery pack choices for India: a 48.8 kWh unit and a larger 61.1 kWh pack. However, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system will remain exclusive to international markets. The Delta variant will exclusively come with the 48.8 kWh battery, while the Zeta and Alpha trims will be available with either battery option. All variants will support 70 kW DC fast charging, ensuring quick top-ups.
Maruti Suzuki estimates that the electric SUV will deliver a driving range of just over 500 km per charge. The battery packs, utilizing Lithium Ferro-Phosphate (LFP) chemistry, are sourced directly from BYD in China. The smaller battery pack will be paired with a single electric motor generating 142 bhp and 192.5 Nm of torque, whereas the larger unit will be mated to a more powerful electric motor producing 172 bhp with the same peak torque output of 192.5 Nm.
Designed as a five-seater, the e Vitara is set to compete against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV 400, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE 6. Inside, the cabin exudes a premium dual-tone finish, complemented by vertical AC vents and breathable Melange Fabric on the door armrests. The interior is packed with features, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, forming the centrepiece of the dashboard.
Additional highlights include a premium Infinity by Harman audio system, in-car connectivity technology, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), automatic climate control with a PM 2.5 air filter, seven airbags, multiple drive modes, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, and a second-row seat with sliding and reclining functionality. The driver’s seat is also 10-way power adjustable, enhancing comfort and convenience.
Structurally, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara features over 50 per cent high-tensile steel, ensuring a strong yet lightweight build. With a wheelbase stretching 2,700 mm and short overhangs, the SUV promises agile handling, boasting a remarkably low turning radius of just 5.2 metres.
