Google Material Design 3 is giving Google Calendar a fresh appearance and feel. A more contemporary and user-friendly interface, redesigned iconography, and typography utilizing Google’s proprietary typefaces are all features of this revamped design. Additionally, you may now switch between the device’s basic theme, bright mode, and dark mode. The task list view and the rest of the calendar online interface are accessible with these modifications.
To activate dark mode in Calendar, pick Light, Dark, or Device default from the settings icon located in the upper right corner under Appearance. Google cautions that installed Chrome extensions that are currently using Google Calendar may not function as intended during this visual update. However, Google advises getting in touch with the developers to let them know if you experience any problems with these extensions.
The new Google Calendar design is being rolled out gradually. It will be rolled out starting on October 23, 2024, with Rapid Release domains receiving it first. It will be sent out to Scheduled Release domains later, beginning on December 2, 2024. All Google Workspace users, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and individuals with individual Google accounts can access the updated design.
The web version of Google Calendar had a significant facelift some time ago. The most recent major change was made by Google in 2017, when they unveiled a redesigned interface that was cleaner, had more color, and was sensitive to screen sizes. Modernizing the online application and bringing it into compliance with Google’s Material Design standards were the goals of this update.
However, Google Calendar’s dark mode has been accessible on mobile devices for a longer period of time. Along with the system-wide dark mode that was first launched in Android 10, the dark mode feature was made available to Android users in 2019. As a result, users were able to choose to a darker color scheme, which is more aesthetically pleasing, particularly in low light.
