Happy Independence Day, Cambodia!
The present Doodle celebrates Cambodia’s Independence Day, a yearly commemoration of the date in 1953 when the country proclaimed its freedom from French colonial rule.
Portrayed in the Doodle artwork is the blue-and-red, evenly striped Cambodian flag, which features the fundamental structure of the country’s old Angkor Wat temple complex.
When the capital of Cambodia’s antiquated Khmer domain, Angkor Wat–which means “temple city”– is a noteworthy accomplishment of architecture discovered only miles outside the city of Siem Reap.
The temple is only one of the memorable structures arranged in the approximately 400-square-kilometer Angkor Archeological Park, which is recorded on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and generally proclaimed as one of Southeast Asia’s most loved sites.
