Greg Williams’ unique shooting style served as the inspiration for the first iteration of the “Artist Looks” filter effect, which Leica is adding to its Lux camera app for iPhones. This is the first time Leica has collaborated directly with a professional photographer to create a filter meant to reflect their visual aesthetic.

The vintage Kodak Tri-X black-and-white film served as the inspiration for the new Greg Williams Artist Look. It converts color photos into monochrome with subtle tweaks – particularly a slightly shifted white point that gives images a warm, vintage tone rather than stark black and white. Like other filters in the Lux app, this one offers an easy, one-tap editing experience for users who want fast, stylized results.

Available in version 1.7 of the Leica Lux app on the iOS App Store, this filter is exclusive to Lux Pro subscribers, who pay either $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually. It is also bundled with Leica’s $625 phone grip, which recently increased in price due to tariffs.

The Lux app offers iPhone users a Leica-flavored camera experience, with both free and premium tools. In addition to color profiles like Classic and Chrome, the app includes effects based on vintage Leica cameras and lens-specific looks that simulate the depth and rendering of famous Leica lenses like the 50mm f/1.2 Noctilux or the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux.

Alongside the Lux app update, Leica is also updating its Fotos app. Owners of the Leica Q3, Q3 43, SL3, and SL3-S can now import the Greg Williams Artist Look directly into their cameras. For those with older models, the Fotos app can still apply the filter to JPEG images uploaded from any Leica camera with Wi-Fi capabilities. Unlike in the Lux app, there’s no subscription required to access the Artist Look in Fotos-only the need to own a compatible Leica device.

While film simulation filters are widely used in photography apps and camera systems like Fujifilm’s, Leica’s approach of building filters around a photographer’s individual style brings a fresh twist. Future collaborations with other iconic Leica photographers could bring even more unique looks to users.
