Mercedes-Benz AMG has officially confirmed the first specifics for its dedicated electric car platform, known as the AMG, following a preview of it in the Vision AMG concept two years ago.EA.
The platform is being entirely developed in-house at AMG, and a replacement for the GT 4-Door Coupe is anticipated to launch the platform in production the following year. Following reports of prototypes for the new model being seen in northern Sweden for winter testing, AMG has now shared some of its own images of one of the test cars.
The AMG stated.Axial-flux motor technology is one of the key breakthroughs that EA platform will bring to the brand. The British business Yasa, which specializes in high-performance electric motors, was acquired by Mercedes in 2021. Yasa will probably provide the axial-flux motors for cars built on the AMG.EA platform.
Compared to traditional radial-flux motors of comparable output, axial-flux motors are both smaller and lighter. It has already been disclosed by Yasa CEO Tim Woolmer that a motor weighing slightly more than fifty pounds can produce nearly 500 horsepower. They are far less economical, though, because it is more difficult to manufacture the motors than it is for radial-flux motors.
Additionally, AMG announced that the AMG.EA platform will feature a high-performance, high-voltage battery. AMG’s knowledge with the F1 program will probably help the battery, especially with energy recovery and discharging and maybe cooling as well.
