With the formal release of the brand-new 2025 A6 e-tron, Audi has advanced its lineup of electric vehicles. offered in two body styles: Avant and Sportback. This generation, in contrast to the previous one, will only run on electricity, providing users with an all-electric driving experience.

Audi is planning to relaunch its conventional lineup in the wake of the upcoming release of the completely electric A6 e-tron. In keeping with the automaker’s new practice of allocating even numbers for electric vehicles, the existing ICE-powered A6 is scheduled for a facelift and rename as the A7.

The production A6 e-tron substantially resembles the concept cars from 2021 (Sportback) and 2022 (Avant). Smaller split headlamp adjustments, a bolder black grille surround, conventional door handles, and widened full-width taillights are some of the subtle improvements.

Audi says that eight distinct digital lightning signatures may be created by combining the second-generation OLEDs at the back and the sophisticated Matrix LEDs at the front with an illuminated symbol on the tailgate.

Unfortunately, key high-tech features, including the virtual mirrors, the car-to-X connection, the adaptive matrix LED headlights, and the active digital light signatures, won’t make it across the Atlantic because of US rules.

Throughout the development of the A6 e-tron, Audi gave aerodynamics first priority, running several wind tunnel tests and over 1,300 simulations.

Most of the center console and dashboard are from the Audi Q6 e-tron. A triple-screen arrangement consisting of an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment display, and a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the passenger dominates the dashboard. A comprehensive suite of ADAS technologies and two more screens that function as virtual mirrors enhance this visual spectacle.

A four-zone automated air conditioning system with an ionizer and aroma dispenser, along with a Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 20 speakers and 830 watts, are some of the available amenities. Another is a panoramic glass roof that can become opaque at the press of a button.

Powertrain Options

Like the Q6 e-tron and the Porsche Macan EV, the Audi A6 e-tron is built on the PPE architecture. Three powertrains are available at launch, with additional RWD and AWD options to come later, based on the market.

Powering the rear wheels of the standard Audi A6 e-tron Performance is a single electric motor that produces 362 horsepower (270 kW / 367 PS). Audi has the A6 e-tron quattro, which increases output to 422 horsepower (315 kW / 428 PS) with an all-wheel drive system and dual motor layout, for those who are willing to pay more.

Additionally, Audi has announced the performance-focused S6 e-tron, which will go on sale worldwide. When launch control is engaged, the combined power of the rear-biased AWD system rises to 543 hp (405 kW / 551 PS) from 496 hp (370 kW / 503 PS). The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) takes 3.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is electronically regulated at 240 km/h (149 mph).

The floor-mounted battery pack of the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron has a capacity of 100 kWh (94.4 kWh net), and the 800V architecture allows for 270 kW DC charging. Depending on the bodystyle, the A6 e-tron’s range is over 720-750 km (447-466 miles) and the S6 e-tron’s range is over 640-670 km (398-416 miles). These are outstanding range figures. Hinting to more reasonably priced models, Audi also indicated that a smaller 83 kWh battery option will be available in the future.

Four ride height levels are available with the optional adaptive air suspension setup in terms of chassis configuration. In order to improve aerodynamics, ground clearance is automatically decreased by 20 mm (0.8 inches) at higher speeds when efficiency mode is selected from the Audi drive select menu. The S line and S6 e-tron have 20-inch alloy wheels with a 21-inch option, while the base A6 e-tron has 19-inch aero-optimized wheels.

Orders for the Audi A6 e-tron will be accepted in Europe beginning in September 2024. The A6 Sportback e-tron Performance starts at €75,600 ($81,928), while the S6 Sportback e-tron costs €99,500 ($107,829). The Avant body style carries an additional €1,650 ($1,788) premium in both scenarios.

A6 e-tron (RWD), A6 e-tron quattro (AWD), and S6 e-tron (AWD) pricing for the US range will be revealed later.
