Procter and Gamble, the manufacturer of Tide Pods, is recalling over 8 million packages of laundry detergent due to the possibility that the outside packaging may shatter, increasing the likelihood that individuals may inadvertently consume the individual pods within.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice, 8.2 million packets of Tide Pods, Gain Flings, Ace Pods, and Ariel Pods—all varieties of liquid laundry detergent packet products—are included in the recall.
The detergent comes in individual flexible film packets that, if opened improperly, could be dangerous if the contents are swallowed, especially by little children. Another risk associated with the pods’ contents is injury to the skin or eyes.
The defective outer bags, which come in 17 distinct kinds and various sizes, were produced between September 2023 and February 2024. They are prone to ripping around their zipper tracks.
Customers who purchase from Lot Numbers indicated on Procter & Gamble’s website are eligible for complete refunds.
There have been four incidents of youngsters in the U.S. gaining access to the liquid laundry packets, but no injuries have been reported. Though it’s unclear if the packets were among the recalled lots, three children consumed the contents of the packages.
The detergent pods may be purchased online at Amazon.com and other websites, as well as at major grocery stores like Target, Walmart, and others, nationwide. Twelve pods in a tiny bag costs $5; forty pods in four bags cost $30.
