While it appears nearly identical to the existing model, the redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be on sale in Europe in March of next year. It has a next-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain with a longer electric range.
Similar to the current Outlander PHEV, the new model has a 2.4-liter petrol engine that generates 134 horsepower (100 kW) and 150 lb-ft (203 Nm). It is complemented by an electric motor that produces 134 horsepower (100 kW) and 144 lb-ft (195 Nm) at the rear and 114 horsepower (85 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) up front. The SUV’s total output is 302 horsepower (225 kW), and it can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds.
The addition of a new 22.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack for 2025, which is marginally bigger than the previous model’s 20 kWh pack, is a significant development. According to Mitsubishi, the new Outlander PHEV can go 53 miles (86 km) entirely on electricity. The SUV can now drive up to 524 miles (844 km) on a single tank of petrol and with a fully charged battery thanks to its expanded fuel tank, which holds 14 gallons (53 liters).
For the plug-in hybrid system, there are multiple drive modes available. There are several modes available, such as EV-only, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid, which combine the functions of the engine and electric motor to produce power as needed. Additionally, drivers have access to two modes: Charge, which recharges the battery while in motion, and Save, which preserves the battery’s charge level. The new Outlander PHEV still includes Type 2 and CHAdeMO plugs as standard equipment, just like the existing vehicle.
Mitsubishi says to have enhanced the S-AWC technology in other places to optimize traction under all circumstances. Tires, shocks, and spring rate were changed for improved riding comfort, while minor adjustments were made to the chassis to improve handling predictability. Additionally, the steering has been improved to be lighter while parking and to give more input at medium and high speeds.
The 2025 model has different six-spoke 20-inch wheels, an updated front grille with active shutters, and modified taillights.
Inside the cabin, changes are ongoing. The biggest improvement is a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen with better software that replaces the previous 9.0-inch system. New Yamaha audio systems with eight and twelve speakers are also available, along with a 15-watt Qi wireless smartphone charger.
Mitsubishi has not yet disclosed the 2025 Outlander PHEV’s market-specific pricing.
