To filter out messages from verified businesses Truecaller has introduced the AI-powered Message IDs

A new feature called Message IDs has been released by Truecaller with the goal of making it easier for users to distinguish critical and authentic messages from the increasing amount of spam in their SMS inboxes. This latest addition uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and label crucial communications such as OTPs, delivery notifications, ticket confirmations, and more-especially those sent by verified businesses. These verified messages are clearly marked with a green check mark, signaling their authenticity.

The company has rolled out this AI-powered feature not just in India but across 30 other countries as well. It harnesses the power of large language models (LLMs) to perform scanning entirely on the user’s device, which ensures that personal data remains secure and private. Notably, the Message IDs feature is being made available to all users, not just Premium subscribers, and it comes with multilingual support including English, Hindi, Swahili, and Spanish.

To function effectively, Truecaller requests permissions such as “Read SMS” and “Display Over Other Apps.” These allow it to provide real-time alerts and identify legitimate messages while flagging potentially fraudulent or spoofed texts. Verified messages are distinguished by a Green Message ID, which adds a green tick icon next to the text to confirm it’s from a trusted source. This includes a wide range of messages-from banking alerts and OTPs to travel updates and payment reminders.

Beyond categorizing conventional SMS types, Message IDs are also designed to detect and highlight significant messages that may not traditionally be considered business communication. The AI behind this feature generates summaries of the key information contained in the message, placing it visibly above the original content. These summaries carry a “AI generated summary” tag, allowing users to quickly grasp the message and take immediate action if necessary.

This development follows Truecaller’s recent upgrade on iOS, where API integration now enables real-time caller identification and spam call blocking, features long available on Android. By improving its services across platforms with Message IDs, Truecaller makes digital communication safer and easier to use.
