The most recent version of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ New California camper van has been unveiled. The most recent in a long line of factory-built camper vans, the California 6.1 has its roots in the Type 2-derived models of the 1950s. This version retains the popular qualities of its predecessors while improving upon the long-wheelbase Multivan variant with additional space and versatility. The Volkswagen California gets its name from the East Coast US state, even though it will only be available for purchase in Europe at this time. With a pop-up roof, extra amenities, and many seating options, it’s the ideal modern camper van.

Dimensions, Style, and Interior of the New Volkswagen California Camper Van

The Volkswagen Multivan with an expanded wheelbase and the California 6.1 have the same foundation. It is the same height as the van that is leaving, but it is broader and longer by 41 mm and 269 mm.

To meet the needs and preferences of a variety of travelers, the brand-new camper is planned to be released in five versions: Beach, Beach Tour, Beach Camper, Coast, and Ocean. In the California range, the Beach is the least expensive version. It features a manual top and three rows of two plus two seats that can accommodate six people.

Swiveling front seats, lights in the pop-up top, sliding windows in the rear doors, and access to a new 5.0-inch control screen located in the C-pillar on the front passenger side are among the upgrades available to owners of the Beach Tour and above trim levels. The updated unit also controls the van’s camping amenities, including lighting and heating, and shows the water and electricity levels.

The Beach Camper, perfect for those who love to travel and try new things, has a single gas burner, a cutlery drawer, and more storage space in place of the last row. The Coast version is considerably better, with a four-seater arrangement and an enlarged kitchenette that has cabinets, a sink, a refrigerator, and a single-burner hob. The Ocean edition, at last, makes things better with its plusher materials, heated front seats, greater storage space up top, and an additional heater.

Volkswagen California Camper Van: Various Engine Choices

Regarding the mechanical aspects, there are three distinct powerplant possibilities for the new van, all of which are compatible with an automatic transmission. Three different engine options are available: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, and a plug-in hybrid that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. For those who are unaware, the California lineup now includes a plug-in hybrid system.

Launch of the New VW California Camper Van

Delivery of the new California will begin later this year and the vehicle will debut on sale in Europe in June 2024.
