As fantastic as folding phones can be, they can sometimes be a bit of a hassle when wearing tight clothing, making them feel bulkier than your typical smartphone. It often feels like you’re carrying two devices instead of just one, thanks to the additional hardware like hinges and joints required to keep the device functional. However, Honor’s new Magic V3 surprised me by feeling slimmer in my pocket compared to its previous model.

Over the past year, Honor has managed to trim 0.7mm from the thickness of the Magic V2, bringing the new V3 down to a sleek 9.2mm. While that may not sound like much, it makes a noticeable difference in how thin the device feels. This subtle refinement shows how much effort Honor has put into making their flagship foldable easier to handle daily. Though it doesn’t come packed with flashy new features, many small upgrades combine to make a significant impact.

Take the display, for example. It hasn’t changed much except for an improved backlight brightness, which enhances readability under direct sunlight. Honor is also emphasizing their AI defocus technology, which aims to reduce eye strain. The battery has seen a modest increase from 5,000mAh in the V2 to 5,150mAh in the V3, with the added convenience of wireless charging. Honor has also worked on improving the device’s cooling system to ensure it performs better under heavy use.

In terms of cameras, the Magic V3 comes with a 50-megapixel wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture, a 50-megapixel f/3.0 periscope telephoto lens equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS) and LIDAR, and a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture, also with OIS. For selfies, there are two 20-megapixel cameras, one on the cover display and the other on the internal display, providing plenty of options for your photography needs.

Honor has also packed this device with a host of AI-driven features, many of which I haven’t yet had the chance to test. This includes the Google-powered AI Eraser, which allows you to remove unwanted elements from your photos, and real-time face-to-face translation tools. Additionally, Honor’s Magic Portal is designed to integrate with Google search and offer recommendations as needed.

As of now, there’s no official word on the price or availability of the Magic V3, but hopefully, it will be priced competitively enough to keep its rivals in check.
