42,652 Ford Escape and Bronco Sport vehicles with the standard 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine are being recalled, according to information submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2022 Escape and 2022–2023 Bronco Sport are included in the recall. An injector of gasoline has the potential to crack. In the event that it occurs, fuel and/or fuel vapor could catch fire, which could result in an engine bay fire.
Drivers may detect an issue if there is a gasoline stench coming from the vehicle’s interior, both inside and outside, according to NHTSA records. Additionally, dashboard warning lights may notify drivers of the problem. Ford is aware of five underhood fires in the recalled cars, according to recall papers.
Owners are advised to take their cars to their nearby Ford dealer if they are part of the recall.
To let fuel escape from the cylinder head drain hole and away from surfaces that could ignite, dealers will install a new drain tube. Additionally, the dealers will update the relevant software to identify a drop in fuel rail pressure, turn off the high-pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power, and display a warning message in the instrument cluster to notify the driver of the problem.
