OnePlus returns to the tablet market with the OnePlus Pad 2, an upgraded successor to its previous model, aiming to improve upon several key features. Priced at $550 for the base model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, it marks a $70 increase over its predecessor but offers substantial memory and storage upgrades from the initial 128 GB.

The OnePlus Pad 2 features a 12.1-inch 3K display with a resolution of 3000 x 2120 pixels, boasting brightness levels of 600 nits typical and 900 nits peak. It introduces a variable refresh rate ranging from 30 to 144 Hz, enhancing visual fluidity. Despite sticking to an LCD screen like its predecessor, these upgrades promise sharper visuals and improved performance.

Sound quality is enhanced with a Dolby Atmos-supported six-stereo speaker setup, positioned on either side of the device. While not as specialized as competitors like the Lenovo Tab Plus, OnePlus aims for a balanced audio experience.

Switching from the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip signifies a significant performance boost. Already praised in Samsung’s recent foldable devices, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises improved capabilities, though benchmark tests generally favor Apple’s M2 chip. The inclusion of AI features like AI text-to-speech and AI Eraser 2.0 for photo editing underscores OnePlus’s commitment to incorporating modern technology trends.

Accompanying accessories include the OnePlus Stylo 2 at $99 and the OnePlus Smart Keyboard priced at $150, enhancing productivity options. The Pad 2 retains last year’s 9,510 mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging, offering up to 43 days of standby time.

Weighing approximately 1.3 pounds and measuring 6.49 mm thin, the Pad 2 sits between the sizes of the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Airs, ensuring a portable yet substantial form factor. It aims to compete in a crowded tablet market, striving to carve a niche with its blend of performance, display quality, and multimedia capabilities.

The OnePlus Pad 2 is currently available for pre-order, with sales set to commence on July 30 through the OnePlus website and Amazon starting from August. As OnePlus seeks to assert itself in the tablet space, the Pad 2 represents a strategic move to attract consumers looking for a versatile Android device with upgraded features and competitive pricing.
