Samsung has long offered extensive customization features on Galaxy smartphones, but one popular Android capability has remained absent. That is finally changing with the arrival of One UI 9.
The latest software update introduces a built-in network speed indicator, allowing Galaxy users to monitor real-time upload and download speeds directly from the status bar. The feature was first spotted and addresses a long-standing request from Galaxy owners. Similar functionality has been available on many Android devices from Chinese smartphone manufacturers for years.
Until now, Galaxy users who wanted to track network speeds in real time often had to rely on third-party apps or unofficial modifications that required root access. With One UI 9, Samsung is providing an official solution through its Good Lock customization platform.
Network Speed Indicator Arrives Through QuickStar
The new functionality is included in an updated version of QuickStar, one of the modules available within Samsung’s Good Lock suite.
Once enabled, the network speed indicator appears alongside existing status bar icons and displays current upload and download activity while connected to either Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Depending on the volume of data being transferred, the speed readout can automatically switch between KB/s, MB/s, and GB/s.
Rather than replacing the standard Wi-Fi or cellular signal indicators, the feature works alongside them to provide additional insight into data activity. This allows users to quickly determine whether a slow download, buffering video, or lagging application is being caused by internet speed issues.
One UI 9 Beta Currently Limited to Galaxy S26 Series
At present, One UI 9 remains in beta testing and is available only for the Galaxy S26 lineup in select regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Poland, and South Korea.
Samsung is expected to expand the update to older flagship Galaxy devices over the coming months, although the company has not yet announced a specific rollout timeline.
The addition of a native network speed monitor is a small but highly requested enhancement that brings Galaxy devices closer to feature parity with many competing Android smartphones.
