The Samsung Galaxy S25 series, launched in January, debuted with One UI 7 powered by Android 15. While the rollout of this operating system to other Samsung devices is still underway, reports suggest that the company has already initiated internal testing for its upcoming OS, One UI 8, which is expected to be based on Android 16.

This development was highlighted by tipster @tarunvats33, who shared the information on X (formerly known as Twitter). According to the post, an internal test build of One UI 8 was discovered on Samsung’s server and is officially listed as a “newfound test firmware.” The test build reportedly carries the version numbers S938BXXU1BYC1, S938BOXM1BYC1, and S938BXXU1BYC1.

Interestingly, this internal testing marks an earlier start for Samsung’s next-generation OS, beginning around two months ahead of its typical schedule. However, this early development phase does not indicate that the beta testing phase for One UI 8 has started. If Samsung follows its usual trend, the public beta release is anticipated later this year. By then, the company is expected to have nearly completed migrating devices from Android 14-based One UI 6 to the current One UI 7.

One UI 8 will likely be built on Android 16, which, according to a company official, is slated for release in June 2025. The Android 16 source code is expected to be added to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3, allowing developers to craft customized versions of the OS tailored for their devices.

Meanwhile, Samsung has been expanding the availability of its One UI 7 Beta. The beta program now includes the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 models in regions such as India, South Korea, the UK, and the US. The company also plans to extend the beta program to include devices like the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 series, and Galaxy A55 later this month.

As of now, specific details regarding the features of One UI 8 remain undisclosed. However, more insights are expected to emerge in the coming months as Samsung progresses towards the official release of its Android 16-based OS.
