Dyson has unveiled what it calls the “world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner,” introducing the PencilVac-a sleek device that more closely resembles a broom than a traditional vacuum. This is because the motor, battery, and electronics are all housed within a handle that measures only 38mm in diameter, roughly the same size as Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer. Weighing just under four pounds, the PencilVac is powered by Dyson’s smallest and fastest vacuum motor to date.
Serving as the successor to the Dyson Omni-glide, which launched in 2021 with dual spinning brushes designed to clean in multiple directions, the PencilVac takes things further. It is not only lighter and slimmer, but it also introduces four spinning brush bars dubbed “Fluffycones.” These brushes are conically shaped to help long hair slide down and get sucked in more efficiently, avoiding the usual tangles. The Fluffycones slightly extend beyond the edges of the cleaning head for improved edge cleaning and are equipped with green LED lights that illuminate fine dust and debris. This feature replaces the laser illumination used in other Dyson models, providing a different but effective visual cue for cleanliness.
The PencilVac boasts a 28mm motor capable of spinning at 140,000RPM, producing 55 aw of suction power. Dyson has also incorporated a redesigned two-stage filtration system intended to prevent clogs and maintain consistent performance as dust accumulates. Although the dust bin is smaller than those in Dyson’s larger vacuums, the design compresses the debris as it’s collected, allowing it to hold more without frequent emptying.
A magnetic floor dock allows for easy charging and storage, and a built-in LCD screen displays the selected cleaning mode and the estimated remaining battery time. This is also Dyson’s first vacuum to feature connectivity with the MyDyson mobile app, which provides notifications for maintenance needs, cleaning settings, and filter care.
Despite its advanced features, the PencilVac does have some limitations. It’s built primarily for hard floors and doesn’t support carpet cleaning. While it accommodates other tools like crevice and upholstery attachments, it doesn’t convert into a compact handheld unit. Battery life is capped at 30 minutes on its lowest setting, though it comes with a swappable battery option for extended cleaning sessions.
Pricing details remain undisclosed. The PencilVac will be released in the United States in 2026 after its premiere in Japan later this year.
