Renault and Nissan are gearing up to strengthen their foothold in the Indian automotive market with a wave of new SUV launches. These upcoming models are strategically aimed at the high-demand SUV segment, promising a mix of refreshed designs and new-generation platforms. The Renault Duster, which is expected to make its debut in India in early 2026, is one of the most awaited. This new Duster, underpinned by the CMF-B platform, has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. It is expected to feature a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 154 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. To increase the Duster’s appeal in the mid-size SUV market, Renault is also considering the addition of a 1.6-liter powerful hybrid engine that generates 140 bhp. When it launches, it will face off against well-known competitors such as the Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.

Ahead of the Duster’s arrival, Renault plans to update its compact SUV, the Kiger, with a facelift. Updated headlights, redesigned bumpers, new taillights, and new alloy wheels are just a few of the minor styling changes that the updated Kiger will receive when it launches later this year. The brand may also introduce its updated logo with this model in India. Interior enhancements are expected to include slight modifications to the dashboard and a few new feature additions. The 1.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline and 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines will still be available, though.

Further expanding its SUV lineup, Renault is preparing to introduce the Boreal, a three-row SUV built on the Dacia Bigster’s blueprint. Slated to arrive in the latter half of 2026, the Boreal will also be based on the CMF-B platform. It will be notably larger than the Duster, with an extended length of 230 mm and a longer wheelbase by 43 mm. Powertrain options will likely mirror those of the Duster, including the turbo petrol and hybrid variants.

Nissan, Renault’s alliance partner, is also entering the fray with its own SUV that will be based on the same CMF-B platform. Expected to be launched around the same time as the new Duster, this SUV may be called the Nissan Kait. Despite platform similarities, the Nissan model will feature a distinct exterior design and a unique cabin layout. It will also share the same engine choices, with only minor pricing differences likely based on features and trim levels.
