Tecno debuted its newest foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Flip 2, earlier this month. It is the direct replacement for the Phantom V Flip model. What modifications are there in the V Flip 2 then? What enhancements has the company added to its latest flip phone?
1. Design & Display Comparison of Tecno Phantom V Flip 2 and Phantom V Flip
With the same clamshell folding style as the original Phantom V Flip, the business unveiled the Phantom V Flip 2. Nonetheless, the brand has upgraded its body with a sophisticated hinge constructed of aerospace-grade steel. This increases the durability and smoothness of the flip movement. The rear has seen a significant alteration as well, with a higher cover display.
The Phantom V Flip 2 boasts a larger 3.64-inch cover screen that can accommodate over 2,000 apps, compared to the 1.32-inch circular AMOLED external display that debuted with the original V Flip. The 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution, 2160Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort, and a refresh rate of 120Hz is still used in the main display.
2. Processor
Tecno made a strange processor selection. Not only was the Phantom V Flip 2 not shipped with the same processor, but it was also not released with an upgraded one. The Phantom V Flip 2 is outfitted with the Dimensity 8020 SoC, while the Phantom V Flip 1 came with the MediaTek Dimensity 8050 SoC. Despite the fact that this could seem like a reduction, the overall performance of both processors is rather comparable. The updated version is built on the HiOS custom skin for the Android 14 operating system, whereas the original was launched on Android 13.
3. Battery
The 4,000mAh battery pack that powers the Phantom V Flip allows for 45W wired rapid charging. With the replacement, however, Tecno enhanced both the capacity and charging speeds. The Phantom V Flip 2 is equipped with a 4,720mAh battery pack that can be charged at 70W via cable fast charging.
4. Camera
The back of the original Phantom V Flip has a dual camera arrangement with a 13-megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 64-megapixel primary camera. You get a 32-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies. With the Phantom V Flip 2, Tecno revives the dual camera configuration, but this time it has a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 50-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. There is still a 32-megapixel selfie camera on the front. Although the resolution may appear to be lower, megapixels do not necessarily indicate quality, as there are very distinct types of sensors.
5. Cost
At a price of roughly 600 US dollars in other regions and 700 euros in Europe, Tecno introduced its first flip phone. Given that it costs 699 US dollars, it appears that the next-generation Phantom V Flip 2 will experience a minor price increase.
