A significant production milestone has been reached in India by European auto giants Volkswagen and Skoda Auto. 15 lakh Indian-made cars have been produced by the two of them. These automakers are a part of the Volkswagen Group.

as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, conduct business in India. Under their India 2.0 initiative, the couple is currently producing automobiles such as the Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia, and Virtus for both the domestic market and international markets.

Along with announcing other significant dates, such as producing more than 3.80 lakh engines and more than three lakh units of Made-in-India 2.0 items, Volkswagen and Skoda also revealed the important production milestone. Volkswagen and Skoda have been producing automobiles in India at the Chakan plant, which is situated in Maharashtra, close to Pune. The factory opened for business in 2007. The Skoda Fabia was the first Volkswagen Group vehicle produced at this facility. Popular vehicles like the Volkswagen Polo, Vento, and Ameo, as well as the Skoda Rapid, have also been produced at this location.

With its India 2.0 project, the Volkswagen Group tried a different strategy five years ago with the goal of producing automobiles specifically for Indian consumers. The business established a new technological center in Pune in January 2019 to produce automobiles utilizing the MQB-AO-IN subcompact platform, which is localized. Models like the Taigun and Virtus from Volkswagen and the Kushaq and Slavia from Skoda were born on this platform.

Additionally, Skoda and Volkswagen ship vehicles made at this 540-acre factory overseas. The automaker pair exports their cars to about 40 countries in both left- and right-hand drive configurations. More than thirty percent of the automobiles produced at this plant are exported.

Currently, Volkswagen uses two locations in India to produce its cars. In Maharashtra, these plants are situated in Aurangabad and Pune. The yearly capacity of both plants is approximately two lakh automobiles.
