Citroen Bets on New C3 Sport Edition to Revive Flagging Sales in India

In the domestic market, Citroen India has been going through a difficult time, with sales numbers continuously falling short of projections. In an ongoing effort to reverse its fortunes, the brand has been rolling out fresh variants and updates across its lineup. As part of this push, midway through June 2025, Citroen introduced the C3 Sport Edition — a sportier take on its C3 hatchback, featuring cosmetic enhancements, a new colour option, and a tweaked features list aimed at drawing in new buyers.

The business unveiled a CNG version of the C3 in May 2025, after launching the Dark Edition for the C3 hatchback, Basalt coupe SUV, and Aircross SUV in April 2025. However, despite these efforts, sales continued to disappoint, with just 333 units sold in May 2025, marking both year-on-year and month-on-month declines. Citroen responded by cutting prices by up to ₹2.8 lakh in order to increase demand.

The new C3 Sport Edition is now priced by the French automaker at ₹6.23 lakh (ex-showroom). While variant-specific pricing isn’t listed on the company’s website like the Dark Edition, Citroen confirms that the Sport Edition commands a ₹21,000 premium over its corresponding standard trims.

Exclusively offered with the peppier 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, this version generates 110 PS of peak power and 205 Nm of torque, enabling a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint in 10 seconds. Customers can choose between a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The C3 Sport Edition also introduces a new Garnet Red colour to the palette, which might soon be available beyond this variant. Additionally, customers can opt for an Optional Tech Kit priced at ₹15,000, adding a dashcam and wireless charging pad.

Unique to the Sport Edition are ‘Sport’ themed decals, ambient lighting, sport-styled pedal covers, themed upholstery, special carpet mats, and cushioned seatbelts. These enhancements, likely dealer-installed, could be customizable based on individual negotiation — a trend seen with Citroen’s earlier editions.
