The eagerly anticipated XEV 9e and BE 6e, the two EVs under Mahindra’s new sub-brands, BE and XEV, respectively, have finally been unveiled after a protracted wait. The base model of the XEV 9e with the same battery costs Rs 21.90 lakh, while the entry-spec Be 6e with a 59 kWh battery pack costs Rs 18.90 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, nationwide.
The Mahindra XEV 9e
The new lit Mahindra “Infinity” emblem is displayed on the upright bonnet of the Mahindra XEV 9e. The integrated LED DRL arrangement extends to the sides of the vertically stacked LED projector headlights beneath the hood. Like most EVs, it has a blanked-off grille and a black lower bumper with two LED fog lamps and an air intake.
The SUV-coupe’s flush door handles and sloping roofline are visible in profile. Notably, the wheel arches have a black cladding that runs the length of the EV, the ORVMs are body colored, and the B and C pillars are black. Additionally, the dual-tone alloy wheels with an aerodynamic shape are finished in black.
Similar to the LED DRLs up front, it includes a connected LED tail light arrangement with an inverted U-shaped form. The company will employ the lighted Infinity logo on the bulging tailgate exclusively for its electric vehicles. There is a chrome appliqué on the black rear bumper.
Mahindra BE 6e
With aggressive cuts and creases, the Mahindra BE 6e’s bonnet design becomes more angular, and the BE logo is lit. It also has LED projector headlights, but they are stacked horizontally. There is no light bar connecting the C-shaped LED DRLs. It has a silver skid plate and LED fog lamps on its black lower bumper.
Although the dual-tone alloy wheels are different, the wheel arches’ gloss cladding is identical to that of the XEV 9e. Another distinction is that the rear door handles are built into the C-pillar, whilst the front doors use flush-type door handles. On the BE 6e, the ORVMs, A-, B-, and C-pillars are painted black, and the wheel arches are more flared.
Similar to the DRLs, these tail lights are C-shaped and unconnected. The BE emblem is lighted on the tailgate, while the bumper is aggressively creased and blacked out.
Inside
Both EVs have simple interiors with two-spoke steering wheels that have lighted logos (the BE logo on the BE 6e and the Infinity logo on the XEV 9e). The dashboard design is layered, and the rest is comparable.
Dials for the gear shifter and driving modes are located on the center console. Additionally, it sports a wireless phone charger (the BE 6e has two wireless phone charging pads) and two cupholders. The front center armrest is where the console extends.
The XEV 9e has three 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard, one for the driver’s display, one for the touchscreen, and one for the passenger display. That is the sole change between the two EVs. In contrast, the BE 6e has two screens.
Safety and Features
The XEV 9e and BE 6e from Mahindra also come with a premium feature set. These consist of a multi-zone air conditioner, a wireless phone charger, a 1600-watt Harman Kardon audio system with 16 speakers, a panoramic sunroof, and a front seat that is motorized and ventilated. These EVs also have a heads-up display that uses augmented reality (AR).
With features like a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat attachments, an electronic parking brake, and seven airbags (as standard), the safety package is extremely strong. Additionally, both EVs are equipped with level-2 advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), which offer features including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking. As seen in several luxury cars, Mahindra is also providing both EVs with the park assist option.
Electric motors and battery packs
The foundation of both EVs is Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which was created especially for EVs from the bottom up. Both EVs have a 231 PS electric motor coupled with a 59 kWh battery pack. For their higher-spec models, they should be able to select from a larger 79 kWh option. Depending on the battery pack used, Mahindra may offer the two EVs with rear-wheel drive (RWD), all-wheel drive (AWD), or both.
The battery packs of both EVs can be charged from 20% to 80% in under 20 minutes thanks to 175 kW DC fast charging. Range, Daily, and Race are the three drive modes.
