Starring with Alex E. Harris is a new sci-fi comedy film called Darla in Space. The movie, which was co-written and co-directed by Eric Laplante and Susie Moon, will have a limited theatrical run in New York City later this month before going live on digital platforms in October.
What is Darla in Space about?
“Darla in Space tells the story of Darla Peterson, who learns that she owes an incredible $349,000.22 in taxes on her business designing custom Kitty Kaskets,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “While mulling over how to pay off this debt, Darla happens to stumble upon the discovery of a lifetime in the warehouse she cleans as a side-gig; a sentient kombucha scoby named Mother. With Mother’s talent for granting mind-blowing orgasms, Darla sees an opportunity to raise the money she needs. Mother has her own conditions, however: she wants Darla’s help getting to space.
In addition to Harris, the film stars Jenn Lyon, Rasheda Crockett, Thomas Jay Ryan, JS Oliver, Constance Shulman, and Eamon O’Connell.
The film Darla in Space employs highly particular viewpoints and creative decisions.
After the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival in January, Freestyle Digital Media obtained the film’s VOD rights in North America. In April 2024, the film was screened at the Indianapolis International Film Festival as well.
On September 27, 2024, Darla in Space will have a limited theatrical premiere at the Quad Cinema in New York City. On October 25, 2024, it will then make its DVD and VOD platform debuts in North America.
