Collins Aerospace, a leading aerospace manufacturer, has inaugurated its new Engineering Development and Test Center (EDTC) at the North Gate campus in Bengaluru. The company has invested $25 million in establishing this facility, marking a significant milestone in its expansion efforts in India.
Initially, this state-of-the-art center will support various Collins Aerospace business divisions, including avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and controls. However, over time, its scope will expand to serve all RTX businesses, broadening its role in aerospace and defense applications. As a business unit of the NYSE-listed RTX Corporation, Collins Aerospace aims to enhance its technological capabilities in the region while strengthening its presence in the global aerospace market.
The newly launched facility is designed to streamline product development, testing, and certification processes, enabling faster market entry for cutting-edge aerospace technologies. The company emphasizes that this investment will foster innovation, create high-skilled employment opportunities, and support India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Global Engineering & Technology Centers, expressed enthusiasm about the new center, stating, “This facility represents a significant achievement not only for Collins Aerospace but for the Indian aerospace sector as a whole. By bringing advanced testing capabilities closer to engineering and manufacturing hubs, we reinforce India’s critical role in the global aerospace supply chain.”
Equipped with cutting-edge testing equipment, the North Gate Campus facility ensures that aerospace systems adhere to the highest safety and performance standards. The center will simulate extreme conditions such as high altitudes, severe temperatures, intense vibrations, and electromagnetic interference to identify and mitigate potential operational issues.
By conducting these evaluations locally, Collins Aerospace can expedite design improvements and address technical challenges early in the development cycle. This approach not only enhances product quality but also significantly reduces development time and associated costs.
Clay Lindwall, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Collins Aerospace, emphasized the importance of the new center, stating, “With the aerospace sector advancing rapidly, this facility allows us to accelerate testing and certification, making the process more efficient.”
With the establishment of the Engineering Development and Test Center, Collins Aerospace further solidifies India’s position as a global hub for aerospace innovation. The company reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the country, highlighting the strategic importance of this investment in bolstering India’s role in the evolving aerospace industry.
