Quick Share on Android has just introduced an improved interface, now displaying a percentage to indicate file transfer progress more clearly, enhancing user experience during ongoing file exchanges. Much like Apple’s popular AirDrop feature, Quick Share allows users to quickly share photos, videos, documents, and more, wirelessly between Android, iOS, and even Windows devices. However, prior to this update, there was a minor limitation in the user interface for larger transfers.
Previously known as “Nearby Share,” Google’s file-sharing feature did not show the recipient a clear view of the ongoing transfer’s progress, only offering the sender a visible percentage indicator of how much had been transferred. Meanwhile, the recipient saw only a progress ring around the device icon, providing limited information. Now, with the latest Quick Share update, Android users will see a precise percentage for incoming transfers, creating a more synchronized experience for both sender and receiver. This update appears to have rolled out across many devices, including multiple Pixel models and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, regardless of Google account settings. Some users began seeing this feature in mid-October on select devices, but widespread availability has been achieved over the past week.
Both Google’s and Samsung’s versions of Quick Share now include this enhancement, despite minor differences in their respective UIs. Users transferring smaller files, such as photos or links, may barely notice the new percentage indicator due to the quick transfer speed. However, for larger files, like videos or sizable documents, this update makes it easier to gauge how much time remains for the transfer to complete.
Though this adjustment might seem minor, it offers a significant improvement in the overall usability of Quick Share. By providing a real-time percentage, Google has made the file-sharing experience on Android much more intuitive, adding a level of clarity that users will appreciate, especially for more substantial transfers. This thoughtful enhancement aligns with Google’s commitment to refining user experience, even in the small details.
