Emraan Hashmi, currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Ground Zero, recently shared some honest reflections on the nature of relationships in the film industry. In a candid chat with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube show TRS, Emraan spoke openly about the highs and lows of fame, particularly how difficult phases in life reveal who truly stands by you. During the conversation, as Ranveer touched upon his own recent experience with the India’s Got Latent controversy, Emraan quickly interjected, acknowledging that such situations are familiar and widely recognized.
He went on to reflect on how challenging moments act as a litmus test for real friendships, pointing out that when someone is going through a rough patch, many of the so-called friends tend to vanish without a trace. He noted that the ones who choose to stay are the people who truly matter-those who offer support when things aren’t going well. According to Emraan, those are the only real relationships worth holding onto.
He didn’t shy away from criticizing the superficiality that often defines Bollywood, explaining how the word “friend” is overused and misunderstood in the industry. Many relationships, he suggested, are transactional-people enter your life for what they can gain, not because they care. He described these as connections built on need and convenience, hidden beneath the glossy exterior of the entertainment world.
Reflecting on a more difficult period in his career, Emraan recalled the years around 2018 and 2019 when films like Cheat India and The Body failed to perform at the box office. He described that phase as the lowest point of his journey. Despite having enjoyed consistent success earlier in his career, he observed how quickly the admiration fades once the box office numbers dip. At one time, his living room would be overflowing with flowers and gifts on his birthday, but that attention disappeared after a single unsuccessful Friday.
Emraan emphasized the illusion of affection in the film world, saying that many confuse attention with genuine love. But in truth, he believes people are often just calculating their returns on an emotional investment. You’re not cherished for who you are, but for what you can offer. It’s a brutal reality, he admitted, where one becomes less of a person and more of a product.
He will soon appear in Ground Zero, a film backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, which is slated for theatrical release on April 25.
